Durable – reliable – safe
Everyday life without plastic products is impossible. Therefore it's important that they fulfill their tasks as good as perspected. We are happy to perform the necessary quality assurance tests for this purpose.

Test methods

Tested safety
Safety and outstanding quality are good sales arguments for your products. In our accredited test laboratory, we test and certify a wide range of different plastic products using numerous test methods.

Product certification

Confidence bonus for certified products
Test seals increase confidence in a product and the associated tests for quality assurance. Our accredited test laboratory will also test and certify your products.

Mechanical and mechanical-technological tests

The determination of strength, stiffness, toughness, ductility or hardness is of considerable importance for the application-related behavior of a material or product.  Various methods can be used to characterize material properties or to check the final product characteristics. Some mechanical test methods can also provide information on several properties at the same time. For example, tensile tests can be used to determine both tensile strength and characteristic values such as modulus of elasticity, yield strength or elongation at break.

The following mechanical tests are carried out particularly frequently as part of plastic characterization:

  • Tensile test
Determination of tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, yield strength, elongation at break and other material parameters
  • Compression and bending test
Determination of compressive strength and flexural strength
  • Impact and notched bar impact test
Determination of the resistance of a specimen to an impact or high-speed load
  • Dynamic tests
Determination of mechanical properties under periodic loading
(e.g. bending, tension, shear or compression)

More details on the process

Extract from our test methods
Which factors can influence the measurement results?
  • Sample preparation
The correct preparation of the samples is crucial. Different sample shapes or sizes can lead to different results.
  • Specimen condition
The physical condition of the sample (e.g. degree of criticality or residual stress level) can influence the results.
  • Temperature and humidity
Both the ambient conditions (temperature and/or humidity) and the water content of the samples themselves can influence the tests.
  • Calibration
Accurate calibration of the testing machines is crucial to obtain accurate measurement results.
  • Sample ageing and storage conditions
The storage conditions of the sample prior to testing can influence the results. Ageing effects of the samples can also lead to changes in the mechanical properties.
Technical test equipment
  • 10 universal testing machines for tensile and compression tests (application range from 0.02 N - 300 kN)
  • 60 heating ovens for drying or defined pre-treatment
  • 1 greenhouse with an area of 500 m² for root strength tests
  • 10 creep-tension winding stands for geogrids or other materials
  • Abrasion drum for geotextiles
  • Various special test stands for mechanical-technological component tests
What are typical areas of application for mechanical testing?
  • In the construction industry, plastics are used for a wide range of applications such as windows, pipes and shafts, for which they must achieve a defined mechanical property profile.
  • For various geotextiles, different plastics are used that have to withstand specified mechanical loads
  • In the automotive industry, mechanical tests ensure the strength and durability of plastics used in vehicle components. These can be exterior body parts as well as various parts in the vehicle interior.
  • Tensile strength is one of the most important material properties to be tested for a wide variety of films and sheets, e.g. in the agricultural or construction sectors
  • For the packaging industry, mechanical tests are necessary to ensure the usability of plastic packaging during the period of use.
