The national and international environmental management standard ISO 14001 sets out globally recognised requirements for an environmental management system.

The national and international energy management standard ISO 50001 defines globally recognised requirements for an energy management system.

The standard was published in June 2011 and came into force in Germany as DIN EN ISO 50001 in April 2012. On 21 August 2018, ISO 50001:2018 was published after revision. The transition period ends on 20 February 2022 (originally on 20 August 2021), by which time the conversion to ISO 50001:2018 must have taken place.

The standard for occupational safety and health ISO 45001 specifies globally recognised requirements for an energy management system.

The "predecessor", the so-called British standard BS OHSAS 18001:2007 was replaced by DIN ISO 45001:2018. On 12.03.2018, ISO 45001:2018 was published, as were the rules for the 3-year transition period. The transition period ends on 30.09.2021 (originally 11 March 2021), by which time the changeover to ISO 45001:2018 must have taken place.

Requirements for companies carrying out joint installation work:

High demands are placed on the operational safety of district heating pipes over long periods of time. The joint is the connecting element between two casing pipes. It represents a seam in the plastic casing pipe system. Therefore, special attention must be paid to quality assurance during joint installation. The operators of district heating pipes in particular have a decisive role to play in quality monitoring.

The quality of the joint installation is of decisive importance for the service life and cost-effectiveness of district heating networks constructed with plastic casing pipes and flexible pipe systems. Long-term statistics show that a large part of the damage can be attributed to poor quality workmanship during the joint installation. These can necessitate remedial work or even lead to an interruption in the heat supply. Considerable expenditure is necessary to restore the required condition in underground district heating pipeline construction.

The relevant regulations require that the respective activities be carried out by qualified specialist companies. Companies are considered to be qualified if they are commercially engaged in the execution of services of the type advertised and can prove their suitability.
A certificate according to FW 605 is often required in the tender documents of energy suppliers.
