On the occasion of its Networking Day, the German Plastics Center SKZ has awarded the Young Talent Award worth €2,000 to Alina Heihoff, a graduate of the chemistry program at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg, for her thesis "Estimation of Wetting in Adhesive Bonds Using Wetting Envelope". This year's Young Scientist Award was sponsored by Plastic Omnium.

In her award-winning master's thesis, Alina Heihoff focused on the importance of wetting for adhesive bonds. Her research focused on the influence of the surface energy of the adhesive on the wetting of the bonded parts, an area that has been little studied to date. The results help improve the quality and reliability of bonded joints.
The presentation of the SKZ Young Scientist Award took place during the Networking Day in front of a distinguished audience of representatives from the plastics industry and academia. Ms. Heihoff also had the opportunity to present the content and results of her research to an interested audience.
The sponsorship of Plastic Omnium made it possible for the SKZ to award the Young Scientist Prize again this year with an attractive endowment. The SKZ and Plastic Omnium share an interest in promoting young talent and encouraging innovation. Since 2013, the prize has been awarded to final theses of outstanding quality, great scientific knowledge gain and economic relevance.
