The SKZ Plastics Center is consistently expanding its commitment to the safety of pet products: With the awarding of the SKZ seal of approval to TÖYS-Hundespielzeug Manufaktur GmbH of Gunskirchen, an Austrian manufacturer has been honored with this independent quality seal for the first time. The ceremonial presentation took place in July as part of the 2nd SKZ Customer Day: Testing | Monitoring | Certification in Würzburg. With this, the SKZ’s testing program continues to expand beyond Germany’s borders and is increasingly establishing itself as a European quality standard for safe dog toys.

TÖYS products underwent a comprehensive testing program at the SKZ testing laboratory. In addition to a detailed analysis for harmful substances, the dog toys were tested specifically for their mechanical durability. The focus was on the well-known bite resistance test featuring Bruno, the “Würzburg Dog.” The four-legged tester put the toys through their paces—or rather, put them between his teeth—and tested their durability under realistic conditions.
In addition to the mechanical tests, SKZ experts analyzed the materials used for substances that could pose a health risk. As a result, the seal offers dog owners reliable guidance when purchasing high-quality and safe dog toys.
SKZ Test Seal Gains International Recognition
“We are very pleased to award our test seal to TÖYS, our first manufacturer from Austria. This shows that our testing concept is also generating significant interest internationally. Our goal is to further strengthen product safety for pet supplies across Europe and to give manufacturers the opportunity to demonstrate their quality standards through independent testing,” explains Alexander Ebenbeck, Sales Manager for Testing | Monitoring | Certification at SKZ.
Award Confirms High Quality Standards
Ute Jocham, Managing Director and Owner of TÖYS-Hundespielzeug Manufaktur GmbH, is also delighted with the award: “The safety of dogs is our top priority. That’s why we develop and manufacture our products to the highest quality standards. The independent SKZ seal of approval confirms this commitment and gives our customers the assurance that our dog toys are not only made with great passion but have also been comprehensively tested according to objective criteria. We are particularly proud to be the first Austrian company to receive this award.”
Greater Safety and Transparency in the European Pet Market
By awarding the SKZ seal of approval to an Austrian manufacturer for the first time, the SKZ is sending another signal for greater safety and transparency in the European pet market. Interest from manufacturers abroad is growing steadily—proof that independent product testing and traceable quality standards are becoming increasingly important for retailers, manufacturers, and consumers alike.
