The SKZ Plastics Center in Würzburg is currently warning of the repeated occurrence of counterfeit SKZ certificates. In recent months, there have been an increasing number of such cases, most of which originate in Asia. Documents and labels are used that give the impression that the products have been officially tested and certified by SKZ – but in fact, no valid SKZ certification exists.

For decades, SKZ certificates have stood for independently tested quality, safety, and reliability of plastic products. They confirm that a product has been tested according to clearly defined and strict SKZ guidelines. In addition to the initial test, certification also includes regular monitoring tests to ensure that the consistently high product quality is maintained over the long term.
“Counterfeit certificates are not a trivial offense. They undermine confidence in tested products and, in the worst case, can lead to safety risks along the entire value chain,” explains Dr. Giovanni Schober, Deputy Managing Director of the SKZ Testing Division. “The fact that SKZ certificates are being deliberately imitated underscores the high value and international recognition of the SKZ quality mark in the relevant markets, but it also constitutes a clear abuse that SKZ will not tolerate in any form and will consistently pursue.”
SKZ expressly points out that all certificates officially issued by SKZ are published transparently and clearly on the SKZ website, where they can be viewed at any time. Only the certificates listed there confirm that a product has actually been tested in accordance with the strict SKZ guidelines and meets the quality standards that customers can expect from an SKZ-certified product.
SKZ takes decisive action against the misuse of its certification mark and expressly reserves the right to take legal action against the use of counterfeit certificates. At the same time, the company appeals to market participants to contact SKZ directly in case of uncertainty and to check certificates before concluding contracts or launching products.
