A project office for the new Bavarian-Czech Nanotechnology Center has been established at the European Center for Dispersion Technologies (EZD) in Selb. The EZD is thus supporting the Nanotechnology Cluster and the Czech Nanotechnology Industries Association in implementing the Interreg project of the same name, which began on March 1, 2026, and will run for 34 months.

The project aims to establish a sustainable network between academia, industry, and politics in the Bavarian-Czech border region. On the German side, the focus is on the districts of Upper Franconia, Upper Palatinate, and Lower Bavaria, while on the Czech side, it is on the regions of Karlovy Vary, Plzeň, and South Bohemia. This is intended to provide stakeholders on both sides of the border with greater visibility, new formats for exchange, and concrete opportunities for cooperation in the field of nanotechnology.
Two Central Contact Points
At the heart of the project are two contact points in the border region: at the EZD in Selb and at nanoSPACE in Domažlice, Czech Republic. From these locations, regular “BY CZ Nano” networking events are organized, alternating between Germany and the Czech Republic.
In addition, thematic workshops are planned, focusing on medicine & biotechnology, materials research & analytics, and spin-off promotion. Concurrently, a virtual platform is being developed, including a joint bilingual website.
Focus on SMEs and Research Institutions
The offerings are aimed in particular at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as research institutions in the Bavarian-Czech border region. Through improved communication and a stronger focus on nanotechnology, the goal is to create sustainable added value for the entire region.
“Long-standing and trusting cooperation”
“We greatly value the long-standing and trusting cooperation with the Nanotechnology Cluster. Given our geographical proximity to the Czech Republic, we are pleased to serve as the Bavarian contact point for this project. In recent years, we have systematically advanced the internationalization of our activities, and our core competencies in the field of dispersion technologies are a decisive factor in the successful utilization of nanomaterials,” says Dr. Felipe Wolff Fabris, Site Manager of the EZD.
Invitation to Participate
The project partners are currently working on identifying and engaging relevant stakeholders. Interested companies and research institutions are invited to contact the Nanotechnology Cluster or the EZD to become part of the emerging network and thus benefit from it free of charge.
The project’s kick-off workshop will take place on June 17, 2026, in Domažlice, Czech Republic.
