Würzburg Plastics Institute fills position from within its own ranks
The 35-year-old has a solid technical education in plastics engineering. She completed a degree in plastics and elastomer technology at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt and opted for a course of study with in-depth practical experience, including a thesis at SKZ on the topic of “Investigation of the thermo-oxidative aging of polyethylene in high-pressure autoclaves.” Immediately after completing her studies, Müller began her career in the Pipe Systems Inspection Department in 2016. Following an internal restructuring, she moved to Customer and Project Management in the Pipe Systems Group, where she established herself as a competent contact person for customers and colleagues.
With her appointment as head of the certification body, she faces significant challenges that will have a major impact on the entire plastics industry in the coming years. These include changes resulting from the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), the new European Drinking Water Directive, and the Regulation on measures to prevent the release of plastic granules, which is intended to contribute to the reduction of microplastics. In particular, the increasing bureaucratic effort required to meet legal requirements and the sometimes long processing times for accreditations are challenges that Katja Müller and her team will face—always with the aim of providing timely and reliable certifications.
In addition to her professional activities, the mother of two is also personally committed to causes outside the SKZ: As a volunteer diocesan youth leader in the DJK Diocesan Association of Würzburg, she takes responsibility for young people and promotes community values. In addition, she finds a sporting balance to her varied everyday life in Zumba.
Dr. Thomas Hochrein, SKZ Managing Director, emphasizes: "With Katja Müller, an extremely competent and committed colleague is taking over the management of our certification body. She has been familiar with the structures and challenges of our industry for many years and has impressed us with her expertise, sense of responsibility, and drive. I am confident that she will significantly advance the further development of our certification processes and successfully master the upcoming regulatory changes with her team."
