About 150 participants attended the first 3D Printing Party hosted by the 3D Printing Academy and the SKZ Plastics Center in Würzburg. The event featured expert presentations, exclusive tours of the technical center, and numerous opportunities for professional exchange on the topic of additive manufacturing. The event was held to celebrate the 3D Printing Academy’s second anniversary.

Over the past two years, the 3D Printing Academy has established itself as a go-to resource for users of additive manufacturing. On the online platform, members can exchange ideas on a wide variety of topics—from challenges with components to questions about materials and design. The focus is on finding solutions collaboratively within the community.
In addition, the platform offers extensive learning resources, such as information on slicer software, design programs, and selecting suitable 3D printers.
Expertise and Insights into Plastics Technology
As part of the 3D Printing Party, participants were able to attend expert presentations on various topics from the world of 3D printing and deepen their knowledge. The program was complemented by guided tours of the SKZ’s Technika and laboratories.
During these tours, guests gained exclusive insights into various areas of plastics engineering, including injection molding, compounding, mechanical testing methods, joining and surface technology, and additive manufacturing.
Impressive Exhibits in the Exhibition Area
Companies such as Prusa, 3D Prima, Alphashot, and Make-o-Rama, together with members of the 3D Printing Academy, presented components they had developed and manufactured themselves. The applications on display highlighted the diverse possibilities of additive manufacturing.
Among the special highlights were a mobile Wall-E robot and figures over two meters tall, which impressively demonstrated the dimensions and design freedom made possible by modern 3D printing processes.
Focus on Exchange and Networking
“The first 3D-DruckParty at the SKZ impressively demonstrated just how vibrant and interconnected the additive manufacturing community is. Participants were given the opportunity to gain practical inspiration and network directly. The high level of interest and positive feedback from participants underscore the need for exchange formats of this kind,” said Andreas Weiß of the 3D Printing Academy.
“I’m delighted that, as hosts, we were able to provide insight into our educational and research work through guided tours of our labs and Technika, thereby making our work more tangible. At the same time, the event offered plenty of opportunities for personal exchange and networking,” says Irena Heuzeroth, senior trainer for education in the field of additive manufacturing at SKZ.
With its successful debut, the 3D Printing Party demonstrated just how great the interest is in hands-on exchange formats within the 3D printing community and how important in-person meetings and networking continue to be for the industry.
