How to Keep the Chemistry Right in the Future

How can the chemical industry remain innovative, competitive, and sustainable even in economically challenging times? This is the question addressed by the workshop “Keeping the Chemical Industry on Track for the Future – Bioeconomy & Biotechnology as the Key.” It is part of the nationwide TransBIB transfer network, in which the SKZ Plastics Center participates as an active partner.

TransBIB Workshop on June 25 in Aachen Brings Together the Chemical Industry, Research, and the Bioeconomy

The workshop brings together representatives from the chemical industry, research, and the bioeconomy, offering a platform for exchange, networking, and practical insights. The goal is to demonstrate how bioeconomic and biotechnological approaches can contribute to the transformation of the chemical industry, from the development of new materials to the establishment of bio-based value chains.

Concrete application examples from research and industry
The focus is on concrete application examples and case studies from industry and research. Technical presentations will address topics including hemicellulose-based coatings and adhesives, high-performance bio-lubricants, protein-based wood adhesives as a petroleum-free alternative, and strategies for greater sustainability in the adhesives industry. The presentations will demonstrate how bio-based solutions can already complement or replace industrial processes today and where challenges currently remain.

SKZ supports the transfer to industrial application
SKZ contributes its comprehensive expertise in the industrial implementation, material evaluation, and qualification of bio-based plastics and materials to the TransBIB network. The goal of SKZ’s activities is to support companies, particularly in assessing the opportunities and risks of bioeconomic innovations, and to facilitate the transfer from research to industrial application. This includes, among other things, practical workshops, technology and raw material evaluations, as well as de-risking analyses that provide companies with guidance on the path to an industrial bioeconomy.

TransBIB Accelerates the Scaling of Bioeconomic Innovations
TransBIB’s overarching goal is to accelerate the transfer and scaling of bioeconomic innovations in Germany. Over 20 stakeholders from research, industry, and network structures are working to guide bioeconomic technologies out of the so-called “Valley of Death” between the laboratory and industrial application and bring them to market more quickly.

Bioeconomy as an Opportunity for a Sustainable Chemical Industry
“The bioeconomy offers great opportunities, particularly for the chemical industry, to combine sustainability and competitiveness. With this workshop, we are creating a space to discuss concrete solutions and provide targeted support to companies in their transformation processes,” says Tobias Göbel, project staff member at SKZ.

Event in Aachen with Online Participation
The event will take place on June 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Aachen—online participation is also available. Participation in the workshop is free of charge, and on-site catering is included. The event is part of the TransBIB project. Advance registration is required.
