Terahertz (THz) technology is a new and advanced non-destructive and non-contact testing method. Advanced research and development over the past years has brought this technology to the threshold of industrial application.
The majority of materials e.g., a majority of plastics, can be radiographed with electromagnetic radiation with frequencies between 0.1 und 10 THz. Due to unique and characteristic features, the field of application is very broad. Typically, optical material parameters, such as refraction index or absorption, are used as characteristic variables. Additionally, thickness can also be determined with high precision through travel time measurement.
Within the scope of several research projects, the SKZ attends to the advancement of this technology and its industrial implementation, particularly in the plastics-processing industry.
