Shearography is a non-contact, optical and non-destructive testing (NDT) method, which enables the detection of local differences in component stiffness. Subsequently, these can be ascribed to flaws.


The course of testing, in the broadest sense, matches that of the active thermography, whereas not local differences in temperature but component deformations are recorded. Shearography is most predestined for the testing of foam structures but it is also applicable for fiber-reinforced plastics (CFK, GFK) to detect delaminations and kissing bonds, i.e. non-coherent components.

The SKZ sees potential particularly in the detection of collection of depths information, which will allow for a more exact assessment of flaws in the future.
