Worldwide environmental protection and resource conservation are becoming increasingly important. Accordingly, polymers based on renewable raw materials such as starch, cellulose, or lactic acid are used as an alternative to conventional crude-oil-based plastics. Despite their great potential, pure biopolymers can be used only in a small range of application. However, they can be optimized by compounding with suitable ingredients, such are different additives or fillers.
For several years now, SKZ has been working on the topic biopolymers. In addition to the raw material selection and formulation development, our focus lies on the development and optimization of necessary process technologies as well as on the production and characterization of materials and components according to national and international standards. For these purposes there is a wide range of state-of-the-art compounding and extrusion equipment available in SKZ, such as single screw, co-rotating twin-screw, planetary roller or ring extruder.
