The European Centre for Dispersion Technologies was founded in the year 2014 under the leadership of SKZ - German Plastics Centre and with financial help from the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology. Bavaria Cluster Nanotechnology also offers energetic support. The original idea for the foundation of this interdisciplinary institution came from the local industry in Upper Franconia, which were looking for assistance with dispersions.
Selb in Upper Franconia was chosen as a location for the newly founded research and technology transfer centre. In north east Bavaria there are many small and medium sized enterprises, increasingly occupying themselves with the production of their own dispersions. As they only possess limited development capacities in their own facilities, EZD lends its support to these companies and thus effectively secures their competitiveness.
The subject matter of dispersion is increasingly gaining importance. At the moment there is no industry orientated contact point available, that is able to test ideas, train staff and optimise internal company processes. For this purpose multiple industrial companies in Upper Franconia worked together to promote their interest in a significant improvement of the dispersion of various substance systems. The European Centre for Dispersion Technologies is active throughout Europe, not only Upper Franconia.
